Hello Hunter,

I have a problem with the automatic conversion of file paths into the 8.3 format: For paths (including file name) definitely much shorter than 200 characters AutoVer creates new directories in the 8.3 naming format which then are created in addition to the original path. This way, AutoVer is not usable for me (although in general it seems to exactly match my requirements).

I am not a programmer, however checking the source code, I worked out that the code responsible for path name conversion refers to AlphaFS 1.5. The current version is AlphaFS 2.0: Would it be possible to provide a new built with AlphaFS 2.0? Maybe this eliminates the problem already?

Configuration:
Windows 7 with AutoVer backing up to a Synology NAS in the local network. The Synology NAS directory is addressed via a drive letter + path.

Code suspected to be the problem: FileUtils.vb

Code:
Imports Alphaleonis.Win32
    ''' <summary>
''' If the path is long (>250 chars) then shorten it to a 8.3 path, otherwise return the regular path
    ''' </summary>
    ''' <param name="dir">Absolute/Relative/Long/Regular path</param>
    ''' <returns></returns>
    ''' <remarks>MAX_PATH = 260 (248 directory max + \ + 12 file name). Safe: 250 = 248+\+1</remarks>
Public Shared Function Get83PathIfLong(ByVal dir As String) As String
        If dir.Length > 250 Then
            Return Filesystem.Path.GetShort83Path(dir)
        Else
            Return Filesystem.Path.GetRegularPath(dir)
        End If
    End Function
